I-94 expired based on Old passport but Visa is valid
Hello All.
I am seeking an advise if anyone has gone through similar case as mine.
I made my last entry into the USA on March 5th, 2025 after getting my visa stamped in India which is valid till July 2026. At the POE, CBP officer cut short my stay to the date of my passport which was expired on February 2025. I have renewed my passport before that in Chicago. I recently observed that my I-94 got expired (I should have checked that as soon as I entered into the USA) and need to update my I-94. I have two options to see if I can fix that.
I want to understand the risk involved in option#2. Currently, I don't have a visa for Mexico or Canada. It's my understanding that I need a valid visa to travel to these places even though I am intended to stay there for long. In case I need visa, depending on my situation what would be the quickest path to get the visa and travel out of country?

- Give it a shot to email CBP and request to update the information (Admit until Date) to the date of my valid work visa. This generally doesn't work as it's not an error made by a CBP officer. I don't have high hope on this one but still want to try this option.
- Travel out of country to Mexico/Canada and come back to update my I-94.
