H1B visa maximum stay time is reduced (L1B visa)

I have an L2B visa for 8 months since 2010. Before I had L1B visa for 3 years.

Now my new employer will sponsor the H1B visa.
Since the H1B has maximum stay time of 6 years, this time is reduced to 3 years because of my previous time with the L1B Visa.

Please can you explain if this correct?

That is correct. L1 + H1B together is for 6 years. Unless you spend 1 year outside U.S, you cannot get a fresh 6 year term on H1B.
