HDFC receipt and visa appointment

Hi,
I have old passport as well as new passport.
my old passport is valid until 19th Oct 2011 and new passport is valid from 20th Oct 2011.

Could you please let me know, to get the hdfc receipt do i need to use old passport or new passport?

Do i need to use new passport for visa interview as it's validity start from 20th Oct 2011, but i am planning to have my appointment on Mar 14th 2011?

I am not sure what you mean by 'valid from'. Is there such a thing as "Valid From" in Indian passport? As per my knowledge there is only the expiry date and the issue date. Once a new passport is issued to you, that is what you should be using going forward. So use the new passport's information while getting the HDFC receipt and while filling the DS-160 online.
