Regarding H1B Visa Validity

Hi guys,
My Petition is valid from 2009 through 2012. But I got the opportunity to go for the stamping on 2011, now my visa is valid till august 2012, till the same time is my Petition's Validity . As far as i know H1B Visas are valid for 3 years and extendible up to 3 more years that is total is 6 years. Now my question is that as i have got the visa for 1 and half year. For how many years can it be extended, without going back to india for the stamping.

The time you spend in the US in H1 status counts against 6 years. Your employer can file any number of extensions until you reach this limit.
Visa is only an entry document and needs to be valid on the day you travel to the US only.
