  • Is there a way to get passport early after stamping?

    Hi Experts,

I am an Indian working in Hong Kong. I have appointment and travelling to India for two weeks to get H1b visa.

I have gone through couple posts in h1b forums mentioning that to get back your passport to you after visa interview may take 2-3 weeks.

As we’ll be having very limited time (just 10 working days) from visa interview date to coming back to Hong Kong, I have these questions:

    1. How much average time it takes to get passport usual cases after visa officer says that your visa has been issued?
    2. In case if visa officer asks for some missing document need to provide, would they also keep my passports with him?
    3. Would it be offend if I ask visa officer that if I can get the visa early as I have to fly back to Hong Kong?

Can anybody give some idea or suggestion? I will be really thankful.

    Regards,
    rrahulgup

    1. How much average time it takes to get passport usual cases after visa officer says that your visa has been issued?
    >>> You can collect the passport at the VFS counter the immediate next day. It will take 1-2 weeks by courier.

    2. In case if visa officer asks for some missing document need to provide, would they also keep my passports with him?
    >>> In most cases, they do.

    3. Would it be offend if I ask visa officer that if I can get the visa early as I have to fly back to Hong Kong?
    >>> That will never help. If they have to do an admin processing on your case, they will have to. Even they won't know when the admin processing will get complete. Search and read about posts related to admin processing or 221g in immihelp.

      Thanks for the response, Shervin143.

As suggested, I see two possibilities here:

      1. If at the end of the discussion officer says that your visa is issued, I request him that I want to collect my passport from the counter personally.

      2. In case if he doesn't say that 'visa issued' or ask for some documents to be submitted, then I will tell him that I will submit the required docs but as I need to travel overseas so I want to keep my passport with me, and once (admin) processing is complete, I will submit my passport for visa stamping.

Does it work in this way as I need to fly in another 10 days from visa interview?

        1. If at the end of the discussion officer says that your visa is issued, I request him that I want to collect my passport from the counter personally.
        >>> You should not discuss this with the VO. The VO has nothing to do with the passport delivery. The VFS will take care of that process. You have to tell VFS that you will collect the passport in person.

        2. In case if he doesn't say that 'visa issued' or ask for some documents to be submitted, then I will tell him that I will submit the required docs but as I need to travel overseas so I want to keep my passport with me, and once (admin) processing is complete, I will submit my passport for visa stamping.
        >>> Yes, in case of admin process, you can request the passport back and let the VO know that you have a planned travel and will return back and submit the passport once the admin process is cleared.
