L1 to H1 change by same employer - when i can work to different employer?

Hi,

I got my L1 - H1 visa approved from my employer effective from Oct 1st. Can i start working for a different company before oct 1st?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I guess this is your first time H1B. If so, then the effective date of the H1B cannot be before Oct 1st. Even if you want to work for a different employer and H1B transfer need to happen. You just cannot go and work for any other employer.
