Questions about H4 and H1-B

I have applied H1-B.But before it is approved I have 3 months gap. So I filed H4 application. My question is if H1-B get approved first, however it starts from Oct,1 2011. And my H4 get approved later but it is before oct,1 2011. Which one will be effect?

Your H1B will become effective from Oct 1st. If H4 becomes effective after Oct 1st, then your status will change to H4 and you cannot work.
