regarding conversion of my OPT to H1b

I am on OPT and i am working in a University and my OPT end date is Dec 6 2011. Can I apply H1B from a consultant in October 2011? Or i should start the regular Process and look for another JOB?

If you find a sponsor, then you can apply for the H1B. The CAP is still open.
