For me its 3 months completed....attended interview in 1st week of april ...221g green slip issued...submitted documents at the counter the same time...from then waiting to hear something from the consulate....

Have submitted the details to VFS but no reply yet. :-( After 6 months waiting, i never expected this. There isn't any denial nor approval.

I can understand the agony and frustation since last six months ...i am also waiting since Dec 2011. I appeared for visa renewal interview on Dec 14 and submitted docs on dec 29, but no updates till date now. Sending documents back after six months with no decision really making me furious as in your case. yes i guess its not approve and not denied but still in pending.

Please keep posted the happenings... as you know we have already waited for 6 months and lets be positive ...better be late than never.

Thanks @chirag221gyellow, @vijayvisausa and @AnandBlueSlip for ur well wishes. I called DOS and they confirmed that the case is still in pending status for administration process.
Hope we will see the end of this REALLY DARK TUNNEL soon!!

Any suggestions like how frequently should i be checking the status of my case on the Mumbai's consulate website?

For 221g Blue, I guess you need to wait for an email from consulate to submit your passport for final processing.
Online case status report is mostly for 221g yellow slips.

Thats just what I know.

Response from Consulate after almost 4 mths

After almost 4 mths got an email from Consulate.

'Your administrative visa processing is complete. You DO NOT need to schedule another appointment or return to the consulate.

Please drop the following documents off at one of the VFS locations listed below.'

Does the time take for a revert from US Consulate depends upon the 'Employer reputation/history' or the 'law firm' from which we get the documentation (for 221g) done?
If not, then on which all factors does it depend?

Status moved from Pending to Admin Processing

After almost 4 mths got an email from Consulate.

'Your administrative visa processing is complete. You DO NOT need to schedule another appointment or return to the consulate.

Please drop the following documents off at one of the VFS locations listed below.'

First of all Sameer, finally ur patience has paid off. Yesterday after speaking with an officer at DOS I got confirmed that my case has been moved to Admin processing. Brief summary of the case:
24th Jan - Intrvw date
2nd May - Submitted doc (by company)
till 12th June it was under pending and I never followed up with VFS for the status and instead waiting for the email from Consulate. However, after a month again I contacted VFS and they said that it is under AP, and jus to confirm I called DOS and they also had the same to say. Officer asked me to wait for the CEAC bar code to appear on the consulate website.

If anyone give their inputs on what does happen in this state? Me too not sure on since when is my case under Administrative Processing.

8 Months and an update

I was Interviewed at Mumbai Consulate on December 5, 2011 and was given 221-G blue From. All the documents were submitted to Ahmedabad VFS on December 13, 2011. On December 29,2011, I received an email saying that my case is under " Administrative Processing". After all the wait I got a response from VFS to my Inquiry as below:

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

As per the U.S. Consulate your case has been returned to the Kentucky Consular Center in the United States. You may contact the USCIS office for further information. Please consider this case closed at their office.

Does anyone know what this means? Is anyone in the same situation?

It means, the consulate thinks that they cannot issue you a visa and have dent it back to USCIS for further review. USCIS will now do some admin processing at their end (Like contact employer, client etc) and will decide whether to revoke the previously approved H1B petition or reaffirm it. If the petition gets reaffirmed, then they will send a notification to the consulate and to your employer. If USCIS reaffirms the petition, the consulate will ask you for the passport for stamping. In simple terms, it means, the consulate is unable to take a decision on your case and have asked USCIS to review it further.

That is soo frustrating that they sat on it for 7 months and can't take a decision. Meanwhile, they are not emailing to inform me this but just responding to my inquiry.

Now starts the worst part....WAIT.

Its like a black hole, which ends in a BIG BANG.

I contacted VFS, DOS, Senator, Congressman....to no avail. Finally everyone got the same answer "Ur case is under AP."
