Passport Name correction - H1B amendment

Hi,
I have the following in my passport:

First Name : Raj Senthil
Surname : Blank

My VISA and I797 both have
First Name : FNU
Last Name : Raj Senthil

I've seen this happen for many other people in this forum.I have a basic question around that.

If I change my name on the passport to
First Name : Raj
Last Name : Gaurav

I believe people say do a H1B amendment.. I'm trying to understand what H1B amendment means:
1. Does this amendment entail simply travelling to India (or abroad) and get the VISA corrected with the correct name?
2. Would they ALSO fix I-797 at the Indian consulate
or
does it mean I'll have to do it by sending my application to USCIS with my I797 for correction?

H1B amendment means filing a petition with USCIS to correct/update the previously approved petition. It has nothing to do with the Indian consulate since I-797 approval notice is issued by USCIS and not by Indian consulate.
