Passport delay at Hyderabad Consulate

My wife attended H4 interivew on 31-OCT-2011. After the interview the VO informed her visa was approved and asked to collect her passport in 3 business days. But till today we did not receive her passport and her passport tracking status shows as "your passport is under process at u.s embassy/consulate". I am worried about the delay and contacting VFS regularly.

Can they issue 221g after the interview?
Are there any options to contact and get response form HYD consulate ?
Contacting DOS hot line will provide any helpful info ?

thanks Shervin. Calling VFS every alternate day, they give standard reply that the passport is still with the consulate.

Finally we received my wife's passort with H4 visa today. Interview date 31-OCT-2011.
