Immigration official at workplace

Hi all,

I had the immigration official show up at my workplace this afternoon - I have all my documents in order, he talked to my employer and left within 15 mins.. I was working from home that day, I called in to say I will be in the office within 30 mins. But by that time the official had already left.

I am guessing he just came in to verify that i was a real entity working at the said company. Its been more than 2 years my I-140 is approved but my priority date hasn't opened up yet.

I wanted to know - at what point of the immigration process do these officials show up?

They can show up any time. This has got nothing to do with your GC process. This could be a routine random check that they do on H1B holders.
