Two H1B extension questions

Hi all, my H1B is going to expire on Sep 2012, I have two questions around H1 extension:

1. what is the ealiest time I can start filing the extension? 6 months before expiring or ealier?
2. does my wife have to file H4 extension along with me?

>>> 6 months prior to your current status expiry date. You cannot file it before that.

2. does my wife have to file H4 extension along with me?
>>> If her H4 status will also expire at the same time, then YES.
