  • H1-B Completion and travelling back to India from US

    Hello All,

I am on H1-B and will be completing my 6 years H1-B shortly.
Can someone please advise what all needs to be done in US before leaving to India.

    Examples being :

    1) Closing of Bank Accounts. Do I need to close all the Bank Accounts like Checking Account and Savings Accounts. How about Credit Cards. There is a chance I may come to US in the later part of next year or if needed in Business Visa. So can I keep the Credit Cards or is it better I have to have them closed. Also when Tax returns are filed, I may be receiving something from the IRS, so that way I guess I still need to have a checking Bank Account.

    2) Any other thing which needs to be followed up.

    Can you please clarify.

    Regards,

You can keep the bank accounts and credit cards. Does not matter. However, make sure the address is corrected as Identity theft is a big deal. For your safety, keep montoring the online card and bank accounts including your credit report.

There isn't much to do. If you plan on taking your furniture/belongings by sea, there are services that will give you half a container or a full container for 4000-5000 $ door to door

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
