  • Re-entry to US for new I-94

I recently renewed my Indian passport. Since my passport was due expiry when I last entered US, I was issued a I-94 valid only until my passport expiry (March 2012). I have a valid H1 Visa until Sep 2012. In order to be in status beyond March 2012, I need to re-enter US or apply for a new H1B extension. I would like to go with the former.

    1. I live in Southern California and I prefer to travel to Mexico. Please refer me a website where I can apply for Mexico Travel visa. I intend to cross the border and re-enter immediately after going through POE.

    2. Not sure if might sound dumb, but does the POE issue me a new I-94 when I re-enter US?
The whole point of me visiting mexico is to have a new I-94 valid until my visa expiry. If they allow me to enter on the old I-94, then my trip is a waste.

    Any information is highly appreciated.

    Thanks Guys,
    Sid

You have to submit your current I-94 to the Mexican immigration if traveling by road or to the airline if by air. That way when you return, US CBP will give you a new I-94.
Try visiting a CBP deferred inspection post at a nearby international airport first, they may be able to change the I-94 without you traveling.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
