Applied for H1 B , When Can I start working??

Hello All

I am on H4 visa as of now. I will be applying for H1 b visa on April 1st, as the quota for 2012 opens then. I want to know when Can I start working from April 1st or Should I wait untill October 1st??

You cannot work until the H1B petition becomes effective which will be October 1st or later.
