Passport About to Expire->can I apply for H1B
Hello Gurus
I am in a complicated situation.
My current passport will be expired in Sep 2012.
I applied for passport renewal in Mar 2012, I recently got a reply from Indian consulate in NY that my passport has police status "Adverse" (Reason for adverse is, I was not present during the issue of passport 10 years ago). This status is in RPO Hyderabad. The consulate executives in NY said, they might take close to 3 months to get my passport cleared.
I need to apply for my H1B. My current OPT status will expire in June.
Do you recommend me to apply for H1B with old passport? If so, will they give me H1B visa only till sep 2012(My passport expiry date) or will it be for 2-3 years.
If I wait too long for the new passport to arrive, I am afraid the H1B quota for this year might get filled and I might risk running out of legal status because my OPT is going to get expired.
Any inputs will be a great help.
