What is H1b Petition Number?

When I am filling the form for the visa fee at HDFC, on the form there is a place to write the Petition Number. It would be great if someone can help me on that?
Is petition number same as receipt number?

Yes, petition receipt number.

Do I need to write the petition number on the green HDFC form/receipt? or is it ok to not write that?
