H1b extn - 1 yr and 2 months left

My H1b is valid till June 2012 and have another 1 yr and 2 months left in my 6 yr.
Can my employer apply for my extension for just this amount of time?

Also, if I moved to L2 visa(my spouse is on L1b), and work on EAD, would I be able to gain more time?

Yes, you can work on L2-EAD as long as L1 is valid.
