L1B to H1 visa

Hi,
I am working in USA on L!B visa and my employer ready to move my visa from L1B to H1 visa.

1. Can I continue to work till expiry to my L1 visa and parallaly apply for H1 visa in USA.? if yes then where I need to visit for in USA.
2. What is the procedures for converting L1 visa to H1 visa.

Please help me to have better understanding on the above.

You can work till the I-94 Expiry of your current L1 or till 5 years completion on L1B, whichever is earlier. H1 Cap for 2013 is filled. If you never had an H1 approval you can apply only in next year's Cap. The next Cap will open only on 01-April-2013. You can file for L1 to H1 COS at that time. The start date of H1 would be 01-Oct-2013 or later in that case. This is my opinion, not legal advice.
