  • H1 in processing - Would like to travel on B1/B2

    Hi guys,

I found some related answers but I was hoping to clarify my specific situation. I am an Indian citizen having a 10 years B1/B2 visa. I have traveled multiple times to the US for pleasure.

My H1-B is in the processing currently. During this period, is it ok for me travel to the US? I plan to go there for 10 days - Just travel initially and then spend the last couple of days meeting my future colleagues. My port of entry would be different from the city of my employer but as i mentioned, I am planning on meeting them towards the end of my trip.

I have no intention of doing any work. But I am worried whether this entire trip might be viewed suspiciously or cause any problems.

    Thanks in advance.

You can certainly travel if you have a valid business reason. The H1B petition in process makes no difference.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Thanks for the input. But at the time of the H1 interview won't they ask me what I was doing in the US for such a long time? Could they possibly think that I might have undermined the system and been working in the US all those days?

My intention is to visit friends and travel for 10 days and and eventually just visit my company for a couple of days for a few meetings...

There will be no such questions. Even so, if you can justify your reason for travelling in B1/B2, you are good. Just make sure you don't violate the B1/B2 regulations when you are in U.S like working for the employer in U.S, giving interviews etc.
