DS-160 with old passport and stamping with new passport- Question?

Hi All,

Can I fill DS-160 form with old passport information and HDFC receipt with old passport information and take my old and new passport to the visa consulate for interview and stamping?

I am applying for passport renewal and will be travelling to India in couple of weeks. I cannot wait until i get my new passport to apply for DS-160 as the visa interview dates are already open during my travel period.
