Urgent help! Travelling on H1B approved (non COS) / want to re-enter on F1-OPT

I am on F1-opt, which is valid till January 2013. My H1B is approved (not through Change of Status) - it comes into effect in October 2012. I wish to travel to UK for 10 days in August. Is it safe to leave and come back on F1 OPT without getting the H1B stamping done because I am still on F1 OPT status?

I really need a quick reply. I have to fly tomorrow. If its unsafe then I will cancel my plans!
