Difference in first name

Hi,
My friend's Dad(us citizen) applied for a family based petition for him.
It was approved, and now my friend, who lives in Africa is waiting for his immigrant visa interview.However the first name of my friend is JEFFERY, spelt as such on his passport.But the name his father used in the application is JEFFREY.Can this difference in first name affects his chance of attaining the immigrant visa?Also,he has waited for about 1year, 4months after the petition was approved.What should he do?Please help.

It will not affect. However his birth certificate must match, other wise make a affidavit for the mis spell and get it notorized before going to interview, Do not give this affidavit unless they ask for it.
