H4 to Green Card Please Help...

I came to US as a dependent (H4) of my husband (H1) 2 weeks back.
I passed CGFNS, IELTS and RN (California) I even started the Green Card process before coming to US. I filed for the Green Card through a company in California and they made me sign a contract for 2 ½ years. I got the I-140 approval when I was in India.
My Husband works in New Jersey and we are planning to settle down in New Jersey or New York. The agency is based in California and I am not sure if they are ready to place me out side California. I haven’t informed my agency about my arrival in US yet. Before that I would like to know what I should do to get my Green Card, so that I get a clear picture on the process and I can negotiate with the agency regarding my placement in New Jersey or New York.
Will be able to do a change of Status? How long it is going to take?
