Hi Everyone! I have a question so hopefully someone can answer this.
My green card has been expired for awhile now and I recently just got married. I've been here for 18 years and my dad's a US Citizen (so it's not conditional or anything).
I'd like to change my name BEFORE renewing my green card if possible to reflect the name change on my green card. Here are the steps I'd like to do:
1. Go to Social Security office
2. Ask to change my name by showing marriage certificate
3. Get new Social Security card
4. Apply Form I-90
5. Check box: Section A. 2e My name or other biographic information has been legally changed since issuance of my existing card.
Is this possible INSTEAD of checking the box Section A. 2f on form I-90? OR do I need to replace my green card and THEN get a new one to reflect the name change? Will they know that my card has been expired?
I know people will say: just get naturalized. I don't have money for that YET so please, don't give me that answer.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
