seek permanent residence

I write on behalf of a friend of mine. She entered US legally but currently has been out of status for 8 months. She wants to live and work in US legally. Is there any legal way for her to adjust her status without getting married? She has not left US and does not want to do so.

No, there is not. Her best bet is to get married to a US citizen.
If she leaves the US now , she will be barred from entering for another
3 years, since she has overstayed for more than 180 days.
