Hello my friends,
I have a very complicated situation and can't find anything on the internet to answer it.
I studied and worked (legally, 20 hours/week @ uni ) for 4 years and later became a resident and citizen. For a variety of reasons - recession, godawful jobs - I missed the opportunity to work continuously and I am still quite short of the 40 social security credits to qualify for benefits. I want to find a way to add those 4 years of university employment to my social records. Unfortunately (for me at least) non-resident students are exempt from FICA taxes, therefore I did not get any SS credits for those years.
I would very much want to make them eligible (that would be an awesome 16 credits), even if that requires paying back taxes myself. Otherwise I risk the unfortunate fate of being unable to retire in neither my home country, nor the US.
The question is, is it possible? Has anyone done something similar before?
