  • Updating origin country ID and Passport at General Consulate while on conditional?

What's the procedure for updating your origin country ID and Passport while in the US and on conditional status with green card if your origin IDs have expired and your origin country is Schengen?

I've looked all over the web. According to the General Consulate website I have to travel across the US to NY and have my old expired IDs and birth certificate with a new photo and application. They don't answer emails and the people on the phone don't actually know anything about it.. The actual General Consulate will never come to the phone..

Going to NY and not having the right material, or not having to go at all can be an expensive mistake..

Schengen countries are all identical for this procedure. This is about the only thing I could get out of my consulate over the phone.. The country is Latvia

UPDATE: I'm not really surprised nobody here knows anything about this. The clerks at the General Consulate office didn't even know the details and you'll never get the actual General Consulate on the phone..

        Try using Google bro

First of all, they will not process passport renewals in New York.

They are very clear on their website what documents and fees you need to bring with you.

Also, they are hauling their biometric capture equipment across the country to make life easier for Latvians scattered across the United States.

No they're not 'hauling their equipment across the country'. They are doing a portable passport station a few days out of a couple months in Q1 2015, and the same in the second half at undisclosed dates. The actual office is in Washington, DC. The disclosed locations are basically around DC and 2 days on the opposite side of the country. You are likely going to have to travel even further if you live in about 70% of the country..

Also suggesting Google for this is lazy and misleading. For example if you do this with Estonia you do actually have to go to NY, and they describe literally no steps for conditional residents and even leave out steps for renewal on their web page..
