Hello,
I am looking for help to provide guidance to a friend that moved to the US from the Philippines approximately 20 years ago. She was issued a VISA for her and her child born in the Philippines and was married within 3 weeks of entering the US. She and her first husband divorced within five years and she married her 2nd husband, a US citizen, approximately 15 years ago.
The problem is that she only has a copy of her original VISA and no proof of her green card. She said that her first husband was supposed to apply and she assumed that it was taken care of by him. Recently, I had been prompting her to work towards US Citizenship and she spoke to an attorney about it. He told her that he can find no proof of her VISA or her green card. She had a copy of her original VISA but nothing on her green card.
She is very confused and upset by this. As a US citizen, I have never dealt with this matter and no clue on what to do to help her figure it all out. It seems that most attorneys we have spoken to are willing to help for a huge deposit ($5000 or more) and can guarantee little.
I would appreciate anything you can offer.......information, support and guidance or links to helpful sites.
Thanks!
