Hello Everyone,
Apologies for starting a new thread, but am not able to find the required information for 'change in given name' anywhere on this forum.
Background:
* My name is Pihu Manav Sharma (name after my marriage, my husbands name is Manav and his surname is Sharma)
* I applied the passport while in India after the marriage and I was told (by passport agent) to put my First/ Given name as 'Pihu Manav' and last name as 'Sharma'.
* I came to USA on H4 and then got a new H1B approved as well. All the legal documents in USA including the I-797 has first name 'Pihu Manav' and last name as 'Sharma'.
* I am living with my husband in Texas, USA.
* I want to apply for a name correction on my Indian passport. I want first/given name to be 'Pihu' and the last name to be 'Sharma'.
* I was told by BLS to apply for a Sworn Affidavit from a US court and a newspaper ad for name change.
Question:
1. Where should I apply for a Name Change Affidavit or other document required while in USA?
2. Will it be a Municipal Court or District Court?
3. Do I submit the newspaper ad first and then the affidavit or I apply for an affidavit then submit the newspaper ad?
4. Please provide a few steps to begin with.
I would really appreciate help of any kind in this. Thank you.
