Name mis-spelled in the immigration records

I'm facing a bit trouble while getting my SSN here in Chicago - Illinois. I am from India, came here to Illinois in Feb-06. During the immigration process at Ohare airport, my name was mis-spelled and written as 'ROMIT VOMRA' instead of 'ROHIT VOHRA'. I came to know about this when I went to SSN office. There I was told that my name is entered wrong, and we are marking it for correction. They gave me a time frame of 4-8 weeks in which my SSN will be dispatched.

My wife has to get her dependant visa stamped on 4'th of April in India. So is their any process through which i can expedite the correction of spelling of my name? Will the wrong name be any kind of hinderance in her getting the visa? I'm on L1-B ( blanket ) visa. A have sent my orignal petetion, I-94 photocopy and all other related documents.

Any help/direction to resolve this would be highly appreciated.
