I came to US on visa wavier program and overstayed 35 days in 1997. I did not work or broke any laws. I went to the immigration office and explained them that I have overstayed. Immigration officer wrote a deportation order and I left on my own expense. There was no deportation stamp on the passport and no court hearing.
Now after 20 years I would like to visit US. I called the immigration hotline to check my deportation status. There was no record of me on the automated telephone line.
I do not remembers exacts dates of the overstay as I lost the deportation form. I do remember the deportation form had a A no on the top and my information.
1) Now how do I find out if there is a records as it has been 20 years?
2)Will the immigration officer at the airport will have any records?
3) Do I need to apply for a ESTA or a Visa and do I have to mention about overstay?
Thanks
