Newbie here. Wanted to understand the different types of immigration status. If i sponsor someone to the US, what status does this person hold? Do they get a green card after one year? After green card do they become a US citizen?

That's not much information to go on, it's not as cut and dry as that. You need to give us more information -

How are you sponsoring? Are you doing a specific petition, are you sponsoring their B1/B2 visa? There is nothing to say you can get a green card after one year. It all depends on if they're coming in on immigrant or nonimmigrant visa etc.
