My cousin wanted me to ask a question. Her mother, my aunt has been a permanent resident for 50+ years. In last year she has has gone through some medical problems. My cousin didnt realize that her green card expired over a year ago. She she fill out the renewal or go to an attorney?

It's fine. She can apply for renewal herself. There shouldn't be any issues. Permanent resident status doesn't expire, even if the card does.
