  • Why is it so difficult?

I realize that this site is used primarily by Indians...........and I'm not (I'm from the Caribbean) hence my post............but I'm just amazed at how difficult it is to get a visitors visa in India and how very complicated the process seems to be.......

At home most professionals , (probably except for teachers/policemen) can get a visa and its highly unusual for say a Doctor not to get a visitors Visa. And when I read first start reading the posts, I was confused as to what sponsorship was!.....at home as long as you can prove that you can pay for the ticket, even if you dont have the money there and then, its not a big deal. Sure the'll ask you, who's paying for your ticket and usually you bring an employment letter and bank statement but its more to shows your stability/ties to home than anyhting else. I had never heard of or knew that the embassy would require I-134 for Visitors Visa....

And age is always a big plus..............I cant imagine a 80 yr old for example, no matter how poor, applying for a Visa and getting turned down as long as she can show that her child or other person will pay for her stay there.

And as for the appointment process OMG! that one shocks me.......of course i undersatnd since your population is many times that of mine, but it was still mind blowing to read of appointments months down the line instead of a week or two.....I'm curious, what used to happen before the embassy implemented computerized appt?

HOWEVER, what has been more difficult for us has been F-1 Visas.....that is one of the hardest visas for us to get..............and I guess with good cause , because we rarely go back home after our studies

Just my observation.............but a discussion would be welcomed and enjoyed

Yes, whatever is going on is unfortunate. Wait of 6 months or more for an appointment!

Before the appointment system, people used to stand in the line from the previous night or early morning before the visa office opened in the morning. But at least, people would get the visa same day if approved. I believe that system was really much better than current one.
