  • H1b for Non IT (Chem Enginnering)

    Hello,

Is anyone aware of H1b visa for Chemical Engineers? Any consulting company who can provide such a visa sponsorship?

    Help is appreciated.

    Thanks

I am a chemical engineer and have worked via an H1-B since January 1999 (a TN visa prior to this). My labor certification was (re)filed in May 2001 and is still pending; that should give you an idea of the difficulty coming into the US and adjusting status via an H1-B. The issue is soon to be academic as I am now going the I-130 route with my interview scheduled March 22nd and EAD already in hand.

To answer your question, I suggest you clearly state your immigration status in your resume that you plan to submit to a potential employer. If you do not already have work authorization, then you should state that H1-B sponsorship would be required. I am unaware of any "list" of companies, consulting or otherwise that sponsors H1-B's. My company did it for me for specific reasons but they tend to avoid applicants who do not have work authorization already. It will depend on whether a particular company is willing to go through the hassles of sponsoring an H1-B. One of the biggest hassles is your job description must not change until your labor certification is complete, otherwise the process must start from scratch (been there, done that). Few companies like that work restriction. Many companies are unaware of immigration issues so you have to push the issue to make it clear.

You should have no problem getting a h1B from USCIS, all things being equal.
All you have to do is find an employer who is willing to sponser your h1B.
I am not in your field of work but I reckon that you should have no problem finding someone to employ you if you have the necessary expertise.

The key is to send your resumes to as many potential employers as possible.
Be proactive and things should fall into place in time.

        All the Best, Buddy!!!
