My parents lost I-94 on arrival as the custom officials did not staple the forms to their passport. During custom clearence my parents lost I-94 forms and I overlooked this and did not bother to check it. They too did not know the importance of these documents.
During departure the airline staff asked parents to fill out new I-94 forms as they could not retieve the original forms.
Later on I was told that not returning I-94 forms can lead to serious consequenses. The INS/ USCIS can not update departure records if one loses the original I-94 forms as the serial numbers do not match if you fill out the new ones.
What actions are required to be taken immediately to fix this problem? My parents were in US for two months and have only the boarding passes as a proof of departure. If anyone has experienced similar problem, appreciate your advice.
