  • Visitor customs declaration

I hope I'm writing this post in the right section.

My parents are coming to visit me this month.
They are carrying some cash in $ (< $500), some gold jewelry and some masala(homemade by mom)
    1) What should they declare in the Customs form?

When asked 'Do you have any agricultural product?', they are gonna say 'Some indian masala and sweets'.
    2) Is this sufficient?

On their return journey to India, I'm sending a camera and camcorder for my brother and along with that my father will be carrying a camera for himself.
3)Do my parents have to declare this or fill any form or any other formalities for this?

    1. As long as they are for personal use, they need not be declared. Cash in excess of 10,000 USD has to be declared.
    2. Yes
    3. Nothing in US. India allows upto 25,000 rupees per person + Any used personal imports for free. That should cover the items they are carrying. If you are concerned, send a printout of the same from the indian customs webpage to avoid unnecessary haggling by people at the airport.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
