Need advice on Pending Application

My mother's greencard will expire soon, so she applied for citizenship but during an interview with immigration she was told she would need more documents. It appears her citizenship application will be denied. Can she apply to renew her greencard while the citizenship application is being processed or does she need to wait until the citizen application is denied?
Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

Yes, she can apply to renew her green card while her naturalization application is pending. Most people don't renew their green card during naturalization because they don't want to waste money to renew it, when they can get an I-551 stamp while naturalization is pending anyway. But if she is willing to pay for renewal, she can renew.
