  • Lock box processing time

    Hi,

I am a US citizen I submitted application for my parents I-130, I-485, I-134, I-864, I-765 and I-134. I have included G-1145 form as well. I sent my application to Chicago USCIS lockbox vis USPS priority mail, it shows that my application was delivered on 01/24/2019.

I haven’t seen any update on my application from lockbox, money hasn’t been withdrawn from my account (Personal check), no text, no email and no receipt.

I email lockbox 3 times so far, no response from them either, does it usually take this much time? I never had this issue before ever when I was filing for myself.

My mother’s stay expires next week any suggestion or recommendation?

It’s understandable to feel concerned about the delay, especially with your mother's stay expiring soon. The processing time for USCIS Lockbox facilities can vary, but it typically takes 2-4 weeks for them to issue receipt notices (Form I-797C). However, delays are not uncommon due to fluctuations in application volume, holidays, or other internal processing issues.

Since you’ve already emailed the USCIS Lockbox without a response, there are additional steps you can take. You can call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 to inquire about your case status. Make sure to have your application delivery date and details ready when speaking with an officer. If it has been over 30 days since delivery and you haven’t received a receipt notice, you can submit an e-request for "missing notice" on the USCIS Case Status Online page. In some cases, applicants can request expedited processing under emergency circumstances. To do this, you may need to provide proof of urgency, such as the impending expiration of your mother's authorized stay.

Since your mother's stay is expiring soon, it’s important to ensure that she remains in legal status while the adjustment of status (AOS) is pending. As long as USCIS receives the adjustment package before her authorized stay expires, she should be considered in a “period of authorized stay” pending the adjudication of her case. However, this status only applies if USCIS accepts the application, which is why confirming receipt is critical. If you are unable to confirm receipt in time, filing Form I-539 (Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status) as a backup to extend her current stay could be an option. It’s not ideal, but it may help safeguard her status.

Since you sent the application via USPS, ensure you have proof of delivery, such as a tracking number or signature confirmation. USCIS may request this if any issues arise with the processing timeline. Given your mother's stay is expiring soon, it’s advisable to act quickly to either contact USCIS or prepare a backup I-539 application. Let me know if you’d like more guidance on any of these steps.
