Help required urgently for visa

Hi all, I have been using this forum for last 5 years and its best.
My question.
My parents had 5 year visa which expired this month and they have a passport for 7 years ie it will expire in 2012.Their paspport is issued by Calcutta and also visa. However, they have moved now to banaras and now want to go to Delhi for visa.

Is it possible to get an address change and extend pasport even though passport expires in 2012?

Secondly, is there a way to get visa from Delhi even if they have the current passport is from cal?

Thirdly will they get 10 yr visa even if passport expires in 2 years.

1. All Indian passport can only be renewed in the last year or 365 days before date of expiration ( I renewed 10+ years ago -- I do not belive that may have changed).

2. There are some rules on passport extensions, in some cases you get an extention on the current passport (I think is max 10 years with 1 extension possible but I am not sure) otherwise they will simply ask you to get a new passport (new passport number too) - check the Indian consulate web site.

3. Address change and passport expiration have nothing in common, they can be done independent of one another or together.

4. Even though you can... why would you not have the most current address on your passport, You maybe asked to prove location with additional documentation as to why you fall under Delhi consulate Jurisdiction.

5. What kind of Visa they get will depend on the Immigration officer / consulate, they maybe get anything from X days to 10 years.

However what I have seen is that they sometimes issue to match the end date of the passport, In some cases its 10 years ( usually the passport has to be active approx 6 months after the expiration of the Visa).

Here is what I would do.

1. Correct the Address ( if you are going to apply for a Visa and intending to travel immediately) & apply for a US Visa.

2. If you do not intend to travel right away... Renew you passport with new address then apply for a US Visa.

Note if you get a 10 year multiple the Indian Consulate can always move the VISA page to the new passport or you must retain both passports when you travel.
