  • self deportation and 10 year ban?

Hello. Question for anyone who might have some knowledge. If someone self deports after being in the US undocumented for 20 years, how do they prove to the US government that they left?
How would this person let the US know that they left so that when it has been 10 years they can possibly apply for a Visa since they have served their ban? Thanks

When they need to prove the date they left (e.g. when they apply for a visa), they can show the entry stamp on their passport from when they entered the destination country. Or they can keep receipts or other records showing that they were in another country, which will show that they left the US on or before the date of that record.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

A friend of a friend considered self-deportation. They consulted with an immigration attorney who advised against it because proving they left would be difficult. The attorney recommended exploring other options like potentially seeking a waiver for the 10-year ban.

Again, consulting an immigration attorney is crucial. They can navigate the legal complexities and advise on the best course of action for this specific situation.
