about foreign xchange

hi, am travelling to usa nxt week and in confusion how to go about getting the dollar bills.
I heard if we directly exchange rupees in RBI we get more dollars than doing the same in any other bank e.g. HDFC.
Is it true at all?
If so would the variation be in decimals or more?

I'm not sure if you can get it directly from the RBI. But one way of getting a good rate is ordering it online. India has a 0% commission policy if you order the currency online. Also, it is very renowned and like the crooks that claim something and do another. They also have a great rate advantage.
