Social Security Application

Hi, I need a help , I have an l1 visa and applied for the social security 6 weeks ago,.They told me that the time for the process was from 4 to 6 weeks.I am working out of united states right now , my company assigned me on a project in southamerica..After my application I left the united states to the location of my project. I want to know on some way the status of my papers in immigration .I read your article and look like you can not apply for a social security as soon as you arrive in usa, I did because I did not have too much time here I was assigned right away to a project in south America, How can I check the status of my social security application. I called the social security office and they said that my papers are in immigration, however I am not in usa right now.On the other hand my employee are pressing me for my social security.I do not want to loss my job on that company what can I do.

You can check the status by calling the social security office.

Thanks, but as I wrote in the email I called the office and they told me that my papers were in immigration, my question was if there is a way to check with my immigration my status or if thereis any expedite way that help me to find out what can do to get my social security number
