Back in 2006, I attended Dental school for a semester. After the completion of the first semester, I was denied my private international student loan for further semesters on the grounds that foreign nationals are no longer eligible unless they have a green card which I didn't have. I had to quit my dental education and move to a different country, give up my dreams and look for a job that was enough to pay the bills and the monthly installment for the loan that paid for my first semester.
I have recently been unable to pay my installment (have just missed the payment for the first time this month) due to my losing my job. I have no other financial help and even wrote the lender about my situation and all they offered was to defer my loan for a year which I do not want to do.
My question is, if in the future, I do want to immigrate to the US through green card lottery or perhaps through marriage, will I be refused immigrant status due to my failure to pay my loan?
Thanks in advance for your advice,
