I'm a little confused about immigration. A friend of mine has been in the US for 17 years, says their green card has been "in process" since early 2000s, but he works for a major US retailer, but can't travel outside of the US. How can this be possible? He hasn't said anything about having a temp worker permit. He's worked for this retailer for over 3 years. Any insight or help in where I can learn more would be much appreciated.

Why are you concerned about him?
From the limited information you have posted, it seems that he is staying illegally in the U.S. until his priority date for his pending green card becomes current. However, it is difficult to say anything for sure.Immihelp Support
