I have a legal question to ask. Please let me know, if anybody has been in the similar situation and what you did to resolve it.
1) I'm an employee of company 'X' and company 'X' has sponsored my h1 visa and green-card. I received my green-card about 7 months back.
2) I found a project via company 'Y' and as I didn't want to leave the company 'X' after getting green-card, I asked company 'Y' to contact company 'X'. And they came to an agreement and placed me on a project.
3) I did not sign any document with company 'Y' except that I had email communication with them to work with company 'X'.
4) After placing me on the project, I found that company 'Y' is also not a preferred/direct vendor for the client, and they go through with some other preferred vendor 'Z'. So basically I have 3 layers on my current project and the billing rate I get is very low. Initially the contract was for 6 months and I completed the 6 months contract with the 3 layers 'X', 'Y' and 'Z' in place.
5) Client agreed to extend the contract for another 6 months.
6) Instead of again going through 3 layers, I decided to quit company 'X' and went through another preferred vendor 'A'. I sent a resignation letter to company 'X' and they have accepted my resignation.
7) Now my question, Is there any legal binding between me and company 'Y'. Am I doing a breach of contract? As I left company 'X', will the contract between company 'X', 'Y', 'Z' is valid? And company 'Y' is threatening me that I have violated the contract and they are threatening both me and the client with phone-calls.
Could somebody help me by telling your opinions.
