  • Birth certificate requirement for social security number application

I read somewhere that birth certificate is required to apply for social security number once you reach US (in my case L1 visa)
I have a birth certificate but it doesn't have my name on it. I think its common in India as name is not decided until later. Is that going to be an issue?

When applying for a Social Security Number (SSN), a birth certificate is typically required as a primary document to verify the applicant's age, identity, and U.S. citizenship status. This document must be an original or a certified copy issued by the vital records office of the state Click here, city, or county where the individual was born.
