  • Missed filing taxes a year few years back

    Hi,

I was in the US on a work permit. I missed filing income tax for my final year in US. This was some 5 years back. Haven't been to US since then.

Will it be a problem for a future visit of any kind?

Note that I'm ready to file it now if there exists such an option.

    Thanks.

If you missed filing your taxes for a year or a few years back, it's important to address the situation as soon as possible. Failing to file taxes can result in penalties, interest on unpaid taxes, and potentially even legal consequences. However, the IRS typically allows taxpayers to file late returns, and you may be able to avoid some penalties if you owe a smaller amount or are entitled to a refund. To resolve the issue, gather the necessary documents for the years you missed, file your returns as soon as possible, and, if applicable, pay any taxes owed to reduce penalties and interest. It might also be helpful to consult a tax professional who can guide you through the process and help you navigate any complexities.
